I'm not sure what you mean by wind shear noise, but I've notice more wind noise when the moon roof inner panel is open.

Hello! I have an EV9 GT line 2024 and every single time I push the start button inside my vehicle the A/C is selected and blows air conditioning in the dead of winter. It never remembers my previous heat settings. Does anyone else experience this problem? I have never had a silly issue like this with any other vehicle. Even the loaner Telluride I’m driving remembers the last heat settings.

It seems like a silly oversight to me - but I am still researching. If I find anything encouraging, I will report back here...

I have the same problem with my 2026 model - AC on in the middle of freezing cold winter. After reading this post, I remember a while back I sent a remote start from my phone with "Start Cool" settings which was actually meant to have the AC on. It seemed that AC was on by default every time I turned on the car. I just sent a remote "Start Custom" and that seemed to solved the problem. AC is no longer on when I switch the car back on.

I might have spoken a little too soon - it seems that the AC is related to the "Vent Mode". When I press the "Mode" button, AC is set to on when the "Windshield"+"Floor" is selected. In all other mode, AC is not set to on automatically. Even when I set the AC to off in the "Windshield"+"Floor", it will be set to on again if I leave and come back to this mode either by turning off/on the car or keep pressing the "Mode" button repeatedly. Can you guys help validate this?

IRVINE, Calif., February 5, 2026 – Today, the 2026 Kia EV9 was named Cars.com’s Best Electric Vehicle of 2026, marking the second consecutive year the three-row electric SUV has been awarded with the honor. This recognition builds on the EV9’s recent designation as Cars.com’s Top 3-Row EV Pick reflecting its leadership in range, charging performance, family friendly design and overall EV excellence.

“Being named Cars.com’s Best Electric Vehicle of 2026 for the second consecutive year reinforces what we set out to achieve with the EV9,” said Eric Watson, VP of Sales, Kia America. “From its versatile three-row seating to its advanced technology and performance, the EV9 continues to deliver a confident, everyday electric experience that meets the real-world needs of today’s EV customers.”

Cars.com’s automotive experts evaluated a competitive field of new electric vehicles on attributes including driving range, fast-charging performance, interior space, technology and overall ownership value. The EV9 set itself apart due to its combination of spacious three-row seating, advanced technology and long-distance capability, making it the obvious choice for both families and EV enthusiasts.

“The Kia EV9 stood out because it delivers everything we want from a modern electric SUV — strong real-world range, fast charging, excellent space and comfort, and smart flexibility across the lineup,” said Mike Hanley, Sr. Road Test Editor, Cars.com. “After extensive testing, it earned unanimous praise from our judges for being exceptionally usable, family-friendly and genuinely well-rounded, which is why it rose to the top and was named Cars.com’s Best EV of 2026.”

The EV9 continues to be a compelling choice with its spacious three-row cabin, towing capability, and Kia’s latest in-vehicle technology including vehicle system over-the-air updates[ii] and ultra-wideband-based Digital Key[iii]. Powered by a standard 76.1-kWh battery paired with a 160-kW (215-hp) motor, the EV9 features DC fast-charging compatibility. Optional upgrades include a 99.8-kWh battery in a single-motor configuration or a dual-motor setup that delivers 283 kW (379hp) with torque vectoring all-wheel drive, generating 516 lb.-ft of torque. When connected to a 350kW DC fast charger, the EV9 can charge from 10 to 80 percent state of charge in under 25 minutes[iv].

Towing may significantly reduce electric range and requires additional equipment. See Owner’s Manual for towing instructions. Always use caution while towing.

[ii] Purchase/lease of certain Kia vehicles with Kia Connect includes a complimentary 3-year subscription starting from new vehicle retail sale/lease date as recorded by the dealer. After your complimentary 3-year Kia Connect subscription expires, continued access to the full suite of Kia Connect services available on your Kia will require a paid subscription at the then-current subscription rate or your use of certain Kia Connect features may immediately terminate. Use of Kia Connect is subject to agreement to the Kia Connect Privacy Policy (available at owners.kia.com/us/en/privacy-policy.html) and Terms of Service (available at owners.kia.com/us/en/terms-of-service.html). Complimentary Kia Connect subscription is transferable to subsequent owner during the original Kia Connect service term. Only use Kia Connect when safe to do so. Kia Connect may currently be unavailable for 2024 or newer vehicles sold or purchased in Massachusetts; please see the Kia Owner's Portal for updates on availability. Kia Access with Kia Connect app is available from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. Kia America, Inc. reserves the right to change or discontinue Kia Connect at any time without prior notification or incurring any future obligation. Message and data rates may apply. Cellular and GPS coverage is required to use most features. Kia Connect features may vary by model, model year, and trim level. Features, specifications, and fees are subject to change. For more on details and limitations, visit www.kia.com or your authorized Kia dealer. Apple and App Store are registered trademarks of Apple Inc. Google and its related trademarks are trademarks of Google LLC or its affiliates.

[iii] Kia Digital Key requires an eligible Kia Connect subscription and a compatible smart device with an active data plan. Normal cellular service rates may apply when using a smart device.

[iv] Charge time based on Kia Corporation testing with 350 kW DC fast charger and approximately 72 degrees Fahrenheit battery temperature. Actual charge time may vary with options, driving conditions, driving habits, vehicle maintenance, charging practice, battery age, weather, temperature, and your vehicle’s condition. Battery capacity will decrease with time and use. Frequent use of DC fast charging can negatively impact battery performance and durability, and Kia recommends minimizing use of DC fast charging.

IRVINE, Calif., February 3, 2026 – Five Kia models were named winners of the 2026 Car and Driver Editors’ Choice awards, recognizing vehicles that deliver top-notch performance, value, and driving enjoyment within their respective segments. All five Kia vehicles are repeat honorees from last year, including the K5 sedan which has earned a spot on the list every year since its debut as a 2021 model.
  • Minivans: 2026 Kia Carnival and 2026 Kia Carnival Hybrid
  • Electric Compact SUV: 2026 Kia EV6
  • Electric Mid-size SUV: 2026 Kia EV9
  • Mid-size Family Sedan: 2026 Kia K5
“These results reflect the intent behind how our vehicles are designed, engineered and built,” said Eric Watson, VP of Sales, Kia America. “Across five different segments, our focus on developing vehicles that are engaging to drive, practical to own, and competitive on value remains the same.”

Car and Driver Editors’ Choice award recipients are selected from more than 450 vehicles tested, rated, and ranked across 47 vehicle segments. To qualify, each vehicle must earn a rating of at least 9 out of 10 stars based on the publication’s extensive instrumented testing, hands-on evaluation, and expert assessment of mission fulfillment, value, and driving engagement.

“To win an Editors’ Choice award a vehicle must be rated to be at the top of its class by Car and Driver editors. I think of the award as the best way for car shoppers to find which cars are worth their consideration—if it’s an Editors’ Choice, it deserves a look,” said Tony Quoirga, Editor-in-Chief, Car and Driver. “Kia’s winners show the company’s ability to build excellent family vehicles including the Carnival minivan, the K5 family sedan, and two practical and compelling EVs in the EV6 and EV9.”

Editors’ Choice honorees span a wide range of body styles, from family-focused sedans and minivans to advanced electric SUVs. Vehicles recognized for the 2026 model year exemplify Car and Driver’s belief that the best vehicles are those that combine strong value with an engaging on-road experience.

The full list of award winners is available at CarandDriver.com.

Just A Word Of Warning Guys, There’s A Huge Design Fault With Kia’s EV9 Front Row Headrests..!!

If anyone is thinking of purchasing the new Kia EV9, there’s a problem with the front row Headrests, they are protruding a massive 180-200mm (7-8 inches) forward from the front face of the seat, forcing your sitting posture into a Forward Head position.

I collected our EV9 in the first week of January 2024 and took it for a 140km drive. When I sat back into the seat throughout the trip, I couldn’t get my head into a comfortable neutral position as the headrest just will not adjust backwards.

After that one journey, I suffered excruciating neck and shoulder pain, I’ve spent the last 2 weeks on pain relief and physio. I contacted Kia about this Design Fault and sent photos of the headrest protruding forward 180-200mm and forcing me into a Forward Head position, I asked if they were going to redesign the headrest but Kia Customer Service got back today and said that since I had taken the EV9 for a test drive, I should have noticed the problem before I purchased the vehicle, Kia have said they won’t be designing a neutral Headrest for people with good posture..!!

So, if you have good posture and you sit with your head in the correct neutral position while driving, I strongly advise you, Do Not Purchase the Kia EV9. The Headrest is designed only for people that suffer with a Forward Head condition, Please Be Warned..!!

I also have this problem. Not to your painful end, but uncomfortable for sure.
I’m going to try a lumbar pillow that changes the depth of the seat back to hopefully shift my head away from the headrest.
They should change this design or offer and after market option.

I own an EV9 and I have good posture, without this issue.

I also own an EV9 (2025 Wind) and have no problem with the headrest, but I'm 77 and lean forward a bit.
J
We have a 2025 EV9 on a lease. I love the car, but will not be buying it after the lease is up solely because of the headrest. It’s tolerable for 10-15 minutes. After that it’s extremely uncomfortable.

I whined to my insurance company when I added the EV9 Land mid-August.
Last week it was involved in roundabout fender bender. Fairly minor damage to the front passenger corner.
The panel where a grille would normally be - $2400 (part only).
The right headlamp assembly - $2800.
Kinda takes her breath away

I hope nobody was hurt in the accident. Parts sure are expensive these days. Pretty outrageous, but I guess we don't have much choice...

The passenger side front directional signal went inoperative with about 3,000 miles on the odometer. I went into the owner manual to see what kind of bulb it takes, thinking I might replace it myself to save a trip to the dealership. All the manual said was "LED" for the light. No number, just LED. Curious, I thought, then went on the internet to learn more, and what I learned really torqued my lug nuts. There's no replacing a bulb. The entire headlight assembly must be replaced. List price is almost $2,000 for the assembly, and who knows how much labor would be. I am pissed. Why would a manufacturer design like this? I had a 2009 Dodge minivan that blew only a few bulbs in over 13 years, but each was easily replaced for under five bucks, in my own garage, by me. Is Kia, and from what I've heard, other manufacturers, padding their profits by selling headlight and taillight assemblies in the post-warranty market? (Side view mirrors, too.)

Yes, this will be covered by warranty, but in a few years it won't. Take heed, all.

I can certainly understand your frustration. The experience you're having with the Kia EV9's lighting system is a perfect example of a significant and often upsetting trend in the automotive industry.

You are correct in your assessment. The move to sealed, non-serviceable LED lighting assemblies is a widespread practice among many manufacturers, not just Kia. While LED lights offer several advantages—they're brighter, more energy-efficient, and have a much longer lifespan than traditional halogen or even HID bulbs—the downside is that when a single component fails, the entire, expensive assembly must be replaced.

Here's why manufacturers are designing vehicles this way and what you can do about it:

The Manufacturer's Perspective

The trend toward sealed assemblies is driven by a few key factors:

- Styling and Aerodynamics: LED lights are small and can be arranged in complex, unique patterns, which allows designers to create more distinctive and aerodynamic headlight and taillight shapes. These are often integrated into the body panels in ways that don't allow for simple bulb replacement.

- Durability and Reliability: A sealed unit is better protected from the elements, like moisture and dust, which can reduce the risk of corrosion and failure. The hope is that the LEDs will last the lifetime of the vehicle, so the lack of a replaceable bulb won't matter. Your early failure is an unfortunate exception.

- Profit and Service: As you suspected, there is a profit incentive. While it's not the sole reason for the design, selling complete assemblies after the warranty has expired is a significant revenue stream for both the manufacturer and their dealerships.

The Problem You're Facing
The core issue is that the long-life promise of LEDs doesn't mean they never fail. A single LED or a component in the circuit board that powers it can go bad, and because the unit is sealed, the entire housing becomes a costly piece of plastic and electronics. This is a very different scenario from your old minivan, where the bulb was a cheap and easily accessible component.

Your Warranty and the Future

You are correct that your current issue will be covered under Kia's warranty, likely under the 5-year/60,000-mile "New Vehicle Limited Warranty" since it's a defect in materials or workmanship.

The concern for the future is valid. The cost for a new EV9 headlight assembly is very high, and labor to replace it can be significant. This is a tough pill to swallow for consumers who are used to cheap and easy light bulb changes.

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do about this design trend. It's the new standard for nearly all new vehicles with premium lighting packages. Your best course of action is to have the dealership replace the assembly under warranty and hope that the replacement unit lasts for many years to come.

Excellent response, Julian. You're correct on everything, but the trend to using sealed and unserviceable lighting assemblies is perhaps just one of many user-unfriendly design trends in the offing. This vehicle will most likely be my final one, as my 77th birthday is but several days away and I tend to keep vehicles over 10 years. By then the family will probably have taken my keys away. One last thing. Obtaining the assembly is apparently a time-consuming effort. The dealership told me 10 days to two weeks for the part to arrive. Well, it's been 18 days so far, and when I made a follow-up call to the dealership's parts department, I was told that it's not uncommon for it to take much longer. :sigh:

Well, I hope you stay active and as healthy as possible so to drive for longer than you expect. I do believe parts are still a little difficult to come by. It's been this way ever since Covid. I think it probably boils down to work ethic. I think a lot of people are doing minimal work, and things just aren't getting done the way they used to. When the dealership told you to wait ten days for the part to arrive, whoever was supposed to order that part probably didn't follow through...
