Kia EV9 owners can now use their electric SUV to power their homes for up to three days, thanks to the newly launched Wallbox Quasar 2 bi-directional home charger. Wallbox announced that pre-orders for the charger, which unlocks the EV9’s Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) capabilities, are now open for select U.S. states.

The Quasar 2 is the first home charger designed to work specifically with the Kia EV9, allowing homeowners to store energy in their vehicle’s battery and use it to power their homes during power outages or peak energy hours. The unit, which includes a Power Recovery Unit, is priced at $6,440, excluding taxes and installation costs.

With the ability to store solar or off-peak electricity, the Quasar 2 enables EV9 owners to significantly reduce their energy bills. Wallbox estimates that users could save up to $1,500 per year by charging their vehicle when electricity rates are lowest and using stored power during peak hours. The charger also integrates with solar energy systems (sold separately), further enhancing energy efficiency and sustainability.

The Wallbox App provides an intuitive interface for managing energy flow, allowing users to switch between different power sources, including the grid, solar panels, and vehicle battery. Pre-set scheduling features also allow automatic charging when rates are lowest, optimizing energy use without manual intervention.

“By integrating bi-directional charging into the Kia EV9, we’re offering customers greater energy independence and cost savings,” Wallbox stated.

Pre-orders for the Quasar 2 are initially available in California, Texas, Florida, New York, Washington, New Jersey, and Illinois, with a $100 deposit required to secure a spot on the waitlist. Wallbox plans to expand availability across the U.S. following the initial launch.

Pretty interesting... Nice in the event of a power outage and your vehicle has a good charge in it...
